BRECO Ropeways Ltd traces its origins to the early development of ropeway engineering in the United Kingdom. Originally established in 1930’s as Breco Ropeways Engineering Co. Ltd. in London, the company emerged during a formative period for rope-driven transportation, when aerial systems were gaining recognition as reliable solutions for challenging terrain and specialized transit needs.
From its inception, BRECO played a foundational role in advancing ropeway design, engineering standards, and operational methodologies. Its early work contributed to the professionalization of the ropeway sector, influencing technical practices that would later be adopted across ski lift, industrial, and passenger ropeway systems worldwide.
As the company evolved, it became known as BRECO Ropeways Ltd, reflecting its expanding scope and growing international relevance. In 2001, BRECO entered a new chapter when it was acquired from Mr. Derek Crussell by the Chakravarty family, led by Jay Chakravarty and Shekhar Chakravarty. This transition marked the beginning of a modern transformation grounded in the company’s historic engineering ethos.
Under the Chakravarty family’s stewardship, BRECO Ropeways Ltd has been revitalized and repositioned for the demands of contemporary transportation. Building on decades of legacy expertise, the company has expanded its focus to include advanced ropeway technologies, urban aerial transit systems, and next-generation solutions designed to address congestion, sustainability, and infrastructure limitations.
Today, BRECO Ropeways Ltd stands as a bridge between heritage and innovation—combining its pioneering engineering roots with a forward-looking vision for ropeway-based mobility in both alpine and urban environments.
